If you have a PC, please refer to the written PC instructions or to the video tutorial.
Step One: Locate your website file
You will have to find the file containing your website later in this tutorial, so you locate it before you start to save time later.
Locate your website file on your computer. It is easiest to save your file in the "My Computer" (shown in Figure 1) file that holds all other files on your computer including "Applications". When you locate the file later, the My Computer folder is the easiest place to find the file when looking for it in the client that you use to upload your website to the NMSU server space.

Step Two: Download FileZilla, A File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client
In order to upload a website, you need a program that allows you to transfer the files from your computer to the server you are using. There are many programs available, but for this tutorial we use FileZilla, which is a free FTP client. Until the end of the upload process, you must have a connection to the internet.
Click on the box under “Quick download links” that says “Download FileZilla Client All platforms” (shown in Figure 2).
Figure 2. Download FileZilla by clicking the Download Filezilla Client All platforms button.
3. Click on the green Mac OS X download box that shown in Figure 3.
This begins the download, and FileZilla transfers you to a page that says "your download will begin in ___ seconds." The amount of time that your download takes depends upon your internet speed and connection. After your download begins, you are transferred to another page. This page is an advertisement and can be closed. You do not need anything else from the FileZilla site.

Step Three: Add the Filezilla icon to your desktop and open the program
Once you click on the green FileZilla download button and your download has completed, your "Downloads" folder opens (shown in Figure 4). The FileZilla download is automatically highlighted.

Click on the FileZilla download. Your computer might ask for your password to install the program onto your computer (depending on individual privacy settings). However, the FileZilla program remains in your Downloads folder.
When you click on the file from the Downloads folder as in Figure 4, an expanded Downloads folder opens that looks like Figure 5.
Once you have opened the expanded Downloads folder, locate the FileZilla download; it should already be highlighted.
Click and drag the highlighted FileZilla download to your desktop.
Double click on the FileZilla icon from your desktop to open the application.

Step Four: Connect to the server
You must enter valid credentials to connect to the server. If you are not a current student or employee of NMSU, your credentials are no longer valid, and you will not have access to the server.
Enter the host, username and password to connect to the server (these boxes are highlighted in Figure 6).
The host will always be: web.nmsu.edu
The username will be your NMSU username (in the example: cooperj7)
The password will be your NMSU account password.
Leave the port empty.
2. Click the blue button to the right of the text boxes that says "Quickconnect".

Step Five: Locate your website folder
The file is where you located it in step one, though the files look different in FileZilla. This can be tricky because every file in your computer is displayed.
Locate the folder that contains your website in FileZilla where the program shows all of the folders on your computer (pictured in Figure 7).
The file is in a box on the lower left side of the window. Locate the folder that the folder is saved in, double click that folder, and then all the contents (including your website) are displayed.

Step Six: Open your website folder
Once you have located your folder, you need to open it.
Double click on the folder that contains your website. This opens the file and displays all the contents.
Figure 8. displays the contents of the opened folder. The opened folder is highlighted in grey by FileZilla. Ensure that the correct folder (the one with your website files) is opened.

Step Seven: Transfer your local files to the web
Your files are currently still on only your computer, so you need to transfer them into the server.
Highlight all of the items in the folder that contains your website.
This can be done by holding the Shift key on your computer, while clicking first the top item in the box ( in the example, "images") and then the bottom item in the box ("license.txt").
2. Once all the items are highlighted, click and drag them into the folder directly to the right, titled public_html (as pictured in Figure 9). The public_html folder highlights once you have the contents in the correct spot to drop them into folder. If you do not drop the highlighted contents directly into the public_html folder, you will see a "Forbidden" page when you search for your site online.
Figure 9: Drag all the contents of your website into the public_html folder.
Now that you have dropped your file into the public_html folder, the upload process begins! At the bottom of the screen is a bar tracking your progress. Depending on the size of the file and your internet connection, the upload can be very quick (less than fifteen seconds). There is also a tab labeled "Successful transfers" at the bottom of the FileZilla screen. The successful transfers show what files have successfully uploaded. There is also a number in parenthesis next to the words (for example: Successful transfers (7)). The number is successful transfers, and shows your upload progress. The number changes depending upon the number of files in your website. Once the upload completes, your website is live! CONGRATULATIONS!
Step Eight: Check out your live website!
Now that your website is live, go make sure that everything worked and that your website is ready to share with everyone.
Go to your website to make sure that no errors occurred in the upload process. Your web address is going to be: web.nmsu.edu/~NMSUusername
For example: web.nmsu.edu/~cooperj7. Be sure that you put the tilde (~) before your banner i.d. or the webpage will not load properly and you will receive a webpage "not found" error message.
